One of our wonderful team members, Marsha Keller, has been an active member of the Plantation Oaks community for the past 10 years. During her time in this neighborhood, she has created a special holiday tradition for the residents to enjoy. This year, she and Plantation Oaks celebrated their 5th annual Holiday Luminaria. The kits for this event are created by workers at Pine Castle and hand delivered by Marsha and the team to each residence of Plantation Oaks. Each year, the neighbors gather for a holiday fest and Christmas parade on the streets lined with these spectacular luminaries.
This project is near and dear to Marsha’s heart. In her past career she worked for over a decade in sheltered workshops similar to Pine Castle. When she heard about Pine Castle’s Luminary sale, she knew it was a wonderful opportunity to support something she is passionate about while sharing the holiday spirit with her community of Plantation Oaks.
Pine Castle is a leader in serving adults with intellectual and developmental differences (IDDs) and providing support to their families across Northeast Florida. More than 300 participants come through their programs daily, learning valuable skills. From basic academic training and hands-on job experience, to leisure activities and life skills coaching, Pine Castle provides a wide range of opportunities to adults with IDDs. One of the hands-on jobs the participants can partake in is the creation of the Luminary Kits. These kits help Pine Castle participants earn their own paycheck.
In our video, we sat down for an interview with Anthony Sutton, Chief Development Officer, at Pine Castle to learn more about the mission of the organization.
